COSTUMES / SCENOGRAPHY
I create unique items made of recycled materials that play in the spectrum between the extra and the ordinary. I make stage costumes for my own work such as DRY LOVE and LOS(T) NINJAS. I also create for others like in STÖRLAUT and MENSTRUAL METAL by Jule Flierl and A FAREWELL TO FLESH by Benjamin Polhig. I also makes daily costumes.
Every material carries its own history and mystery. The meeting of matters is an alchemical process. The action of craft a choreography. The dance of craft needs to be intertwined with the process of dance making. Costumes accentuate, contrast, opens the material of a piece and its esthetic landscape, there is many layers and approaches in that process. Each project there is a fine tuning to define the parameters of this dialogue.
“To me, costumes and scenographies are way more than a 'piece of fabric'. It's rather an acteur – a performer on its own that can animate and be animated. A collaboration between humans and non-human entities where the power dynamics subject vs. object shifts towards coexistence, a mutual influence. Fabrics are an extra layer of matter onto the matter of our body, an extension that transforms the physicality and performativity of the one that wears it, a gate to a potential transformation, a call to the magical. My practice of costume making is an attempt to reanimate matter, flirt with possession, to become a material and host for otherness.”
